MEPS World average steel indices are derived from an arithmetic average of prices in Europe, North America and Asia. Prices are collected in the appropriate local currency and converted into US dollars to provide a basis for comparison. Indices are calculated by comparing the current price with the corresponding value in January 1997. This base value has an index number of 100.
