MEPS staff steel themselves for charity run challenge

25th September 2025

A 10-strong team from MEPS International have steeled themselves to the task of completing Sheffield’s 10-kilometre annual run to raise money for charity.

Keen amateur athlete Kevin Wong, a member of Sheffield City Striders and an analyst at the steel market insight provider, encouraged his colleagues to take on the challenge in aid of Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice and St Luke’s Hospice this Sunday (September 28).

Wong regularly runs to work at the Glossop Road-based business, claiming: “It’s quicker than Sheffield’s public transport.”

His colleagues do not share his passion for running. However, Wong was able to draw on the community spirit among his MEPS colleagues to forge an unlikely team of participants.

Many of the group have gone into training to prepare for the company’s fundraiser.

Research lead Michelle Kirton has tackled 5k Park Run events to prepare for the challenge but admitted: “This will be my first ever 10k.”

She added: “I wanted to challenge myself and this certainly has, but it’s all for a great cause raising money for two incredible local charities.”

MEPS managing editor, Tom Sharpe, said: “Back in 2005, I attended the sod cutting ceremony that marked the start of works to create Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.

“In the years since I’ve seen the phenomenal service that both it and St Luke’s provide.

“Running along the streets of Sheffield on a Sunday morning isn’t something I would normally do, but I’m proud to be joining my MEPS colleagues to support two truly inspiring South Yorkshire charities.”

The business also sponsors Sheffield Children’s Hospital’s annual snowflake appeal.

MEPS managing director, Jayne Craven, said: “I’m really proud of our staff for coming together to take part in the Sheffield 10k as a team. Supporting such incredible local charities is a fantastic opportunity for us to give something back to the community, while also challenging ourselves.”
